Son Sant Joan Airport, more commonly known as Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI), is situated 8km to the east of Palma Majorca. It ranks as Spain’s third largest airport, following Madrid and Barcelona Airports.
Palma de Mallorca Airport handles both international and domestic flights. It primarily caters to low-cost and charter flights from various parts of Europe, along with domestic flights to multiple destinations. The airport boasts an excellent road and highway network, ensuring a smooth and straightforward journey after landing.
As for Mallorca being a very popular travel destination for British tourists, especially during summer months, a number of UK-based airlines currently operate flights to Palma de Mallorca Airport. These include British Airways, EasyJet, Ryanair, and Jet2. The airlines are operating direct flights from multiple international airports all around the UK, such as London, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Glasgow or Edinburgh.
The airport’s operating hours change with the season. From April to October, it operates 24 hours from Monday to Wednesday, from 07:00 to 24:00 on Thursday, and 24 hours from Friday to Sunday. From November to March, the airport operates from 07:00 to 24:00 every day as the flight schedules usually change outside the main season.
For the local people, Palma de Mallorca Airport is of great importance. It not only connects them to other regions of Spain and Europe but also significantly contributes to the local economy by promoting tourism. The airport’s location and transport links make it easy to reach, simplifying the journey from the airport to the hotel room. It serves as the primary access point to the beautiful island of Majorca, also known as Mallorca.
