Bahrain International Airport is situated on Muharraq Island, close to the capital city of Manama and Al Muharraq city. It’s the main hub for Gulf Air, the national carrier. This airport, which was established in 1927, holds the distinction of being the oldest international airport in the Persian Gulf. The Bahrain Airport Company manages the airport. In January 2021, a new terminal was opened at the airport, replacing the old one at a cost of 1.1 billion USD.
The airport boasts a range of facilities. The Arrivals Hall spans 6,600 sqm and the Departures Hall covers 4,780 sqm. There are 104 check-in desks, 36 passport control offices, and 22 e-gates for quick passenger processing. Additionally, there are eight baggage reclaim belts and a retail space of 10,002sqm, which includes a duty-free area that’s three times larger than the one in the old terminal. The terminal also has check-in halls, passport control booths, E-gates, security lanes, a 9,000 sqm duty-free retail space, lounges, food and beverage zones, 24 departure gates, and 7,000 new parking spaces.
Bahrain International Airport is a significant asset for Bahrain, connecting it to major international destinations across North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Far East. It offers the highest frequency of regional services. The new Passenger Terminal, with its advanced technology and focus on convenience, aims to position Bahrain International Airport among the world’s leading smart airports. It has been designed to enhance efficiency and security, while also meeting passengers’ growing expectations for a seamless airport experience.
The airport is open 24 hours a day.
