Airbus has landed a significant order that will provide a substantial boost to the wing plant at Broughton. Turkish Airlines, the national carrier of Türkiye, has placed an order for 220 Airbus aircraft, marking a major expansion of its fleet.

The order comprises 150 of Airbus’ top-selling A321s and 70 A350 widebody aircraft, which include 50 A350-900s, 15 A350-1000s, and 5 A350F freighters. This comes on the heels of two previous orders from the airline for 10 A350-900s in September and four A350-900s in July 2023. With this latest order, Turkish Airlines’ total order book for Airbus aircraft now stands at 504, with 212 of these already delivered.

Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International expressed his thoughts on the order: “This order for the latest generation aircraft is a testament to Turkish Airlines’ ambitious vision. The A350-900, A350-1000, A350F, and A321 will each be flagship aircraft in their respective categories, driving efficiency and shaping the airline’s future and sustainable growth. They offer more range, consume less fuel, produce less noise and emissions, and boast the best cabin in their class.”

Prof Dr Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee at Turkish Airlines shared his perspective: “This significant order is not just about expansion; it reflects our commitment to innovation, operational excellence, and a sustainable future.

The addition of these advanced Airbus aircraft to our fleet will not only improve our operational capabilities but also contribute significantly to our environmental objectives. This investment is a key step in the ongoing evolution of Türkiye’s aviation industry. By updating our fleet with more efficient and environmentally friendly aircraft, we are strengthening our position in global aviation and enhancing our nation’s status as an aviation hub.”
