Wizz Air

Wizz Air Hungary Ltd., more commonly known as Wizz Air, is a low-cost airline based in Budapest, Hungary. It was founded in September 2003 and started its operations in May 2004. The airline flies to many cities across Europe, and also to some places in North Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia. As of 2023, Wizz Air’s main bases are at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport and London Luton Airport, and it operates flights to 194 airports.

Wizz Air has a large fleet of over 130 Airbus aircraft, which includes models like the A320s and A321s. The airline is always adding more planes to its fleet to keep up with its growing operations and to reach more destinations. As of October 2023, Wizz Air has 175 planes in its fleet such as Airbus A320 (200, neo), Airbus A321 (200, neo) and Airbus A330-200.

In the UK, Wizz Air flies to several countries mostly from London Luton Airport and London Gatwick Airport (but also to some European destinations from Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Liverpool)

Some of the most popular destinations are Romania and Slovakia, among other European countries. Thanks to its wide network of flights from London airports, Wizz Air is a popular choice for travellers looking to explore Europe, Africa and The Middle East.

Their cheapest fares are mostly available 2-3 months before the scheduled flights however cheap fares even 10 months ahead are sometimes not an exception.

Wizz Air allows passengers to bring on board 1 Carry-on Bag for free. To bring another, “Trolley Bag” on board, you need to add WIZZ Priority to your booking. By doing that, you’re allowed to bring a total of 2 pieces of baggage on board.

Dimensions do not include bag handles or wheels, however, they must add no more than 5cm to the actual size of the baggage.

The high season is during the following days:

  • Easter 2023 peak: 1 April 2023– 27 April 2023
  • Summer 2023 peak: 12 June 2023 – 27 September 2023
  • Christmas 2023 peak: 15 December 2023 – 10 January 2024

  • Open 2 hours – close 40 minutes before the scheduled flight (exception in some airports)

Airport Check-in Fee

There is a ‎£9.00 Airport check-in fee if you buy this service and pay for it during your booking process otherwise payment for £27.50 will be required by the airport upon your arrival.

The airport check-in is free in the following airports: Dubai (to Budapest), Corfu, Palma de Mallorca, Tirana (to Budapest), Zaragoza, Moscow and Marrakesh Menara.

  • Open 30 days – 3 hours before the scheduled flight if you have purchased seat with your booking
  • Open 48 hours – 3 hours before the scheduled flight if you have NOT purchased any seats with your booking
