Colombo Bandaranaike Airport is the largest Sri Lankan airport within a close distance of Negombo city resort, about 35km from the capital city.

Airport’s not so large terminal handles about 10 million passengers a year. It is a hub to Sri Lankan Airlines and it is a gateway to the vast majority of international flights.

There are several shopping and dining options (snacks, fast food, cafes..) at the airport open non-stop.

The only direct flights from the UK are from London Heathrow with Sri Lankan airlines. With 1 stepover also available from other cities than for instance Qatar Airways, Emirates, Oman Air or Etihad.

Terminal is well signposted and open 24/7.

Colombo Bandaranaike Airport Transit

Change flight at Colombo Airport is fairly easy and takes just a few minutes once you disembark your plane. The security checks are at every gate which will also save you some time. Unless there is a big delay of your initial flight, all connection flights sold by the airline should be doable. If your next flight has been bought together and your bags checked-in to the final destination then you do not need to leave the transit area.
